Telcom Upgrades to 10 Gig Core Network, as part of €1 million Investment

Ireland’s newest ISP, Telcom, partners with Agile Networks and TelecityGroup to strengthen core network, promising businesses speeds of up to 1Gbps

Irish-owned Telcom Ltd, established in 1999, has announced a €1 million investment, including a 10 Gig Core Network upgrade through Agile Networks and the TelecityGroup, to become the newest ISP to enter the market.

Telcom have been providing voice services to the Corporate and SME sectors for many years, with clients such as Green Property Ltd, Higher Education Authority, ISS Facility Services and IrishJobs, just to name but a few. Thanks to this substantial investment in its infrastructure, the family-owned company has now entered the business-to-business data services market, in direct competition with brands such as Eircom, Vodafone and BT

As part of its investment programme, Telcom have teamed up with independent integrator Agile Networks to design and install the new network and will host it in the TelecityGroup, within their carrier-neutral data centre.

The founder and Managing Director of Telcom, Liam Tully, explains: “Early in the selection process, it became clear that the Agile Networks and TelecityGroup partnership was the right fit for our business. The project plan, scalability and redundancy that Agile Networks, in conjunction with Juniper Networks, proposed for our 10 Gig Core Network upgrade provided Telcom with a solution that ensured consistent reliability of our Voice and Data services. The core network upgrade and overall investment now allows us to provide the latest data and voice technology to businesses here in Ireland, with speeds of up to 1Gbps.”

Over the last four years, Agile Networks has grown to become Ireland’s largest independent network integrator. Its Managing Director, Darragh Richardson, said: “The new customised core network that Agile Networks designed and installed for Telcom with Juniper Networks, enables them to sell an extended portfolio of services to Ireland’s business community. Through our niche services, we’re helping to build the ‘alternative’ service provider community in Ireland, where companies like Telcom are offering businesses of all sizes, greater supplier choice and better coverage regionally.”

Telcom is now equipped to provide dedicated fibre services with Quality of Service for voice, VDSL, Multi-Protocol Label Switching and VPLS. It will also enable businesses to avail of speeds of up to 1Gbps on their voice and data networks nationwide.

Headquartered in Dublin, Telcom is a ComReg registered carrier for voice and data services.
